Matthew 18:21-35

In Matthew 18:21, Peter asked Jesus, “How many times should I forgive my brother? As many as seven times?”

I’m sure Peter (like many of us) felt that seven times is a generous number of times to forgive someone who repeatedly sins against you.

Once again, Jesus upsets our human logic by telling Peter that the number of times is much higher, in fact, one could argue from the parable that follows that the number is irrelevant. He points it back to the deeper truth that we are to forgive one another because God first forgave us.

As long as God continues to forgive us, so we should continue to forgive one another.
